Mitchell Walzer
General Contractor
Eugene, Oregon
It started with a loose plant hook. Growing up in Miami, Mitchell watched his mom solve the problem with a wooden match — stick it in the hole, and the screw grips tight. That small trick sparked something that never went away.
He went on to earn a Bachelor of Building Construction from the University of Florida, spending his summers in the field rather than behind a desk — because he’s always believed that’s where the real education happens. He later deepened that foundation studying energy-efficient building design and teaching green building as adjunct faculty at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona — bringing the same hands-on curiosity to the classroom that he brings to every job site.
Thirty-plus years later, that curiosity is still the engine. Mitchell believes a home is the most important space we inhabit — a place of comfort and refuge. After moving to Eugene, he put that belief into action by constructing Conestoga Hut shelters with Community Supported Shelters for three years — and continues to serve at the EGAN Warming Center. Today he runs a small contracting business dedicated to making homes more comfortable, efficient, safe, and beautiful — one project at a time.
When he’s not on a job, you’ll find Mitchell dancing, cooking, kayaking, or finding new ways to contribute to the community he calls home.
“Hero Handyman is the perfect combination of excellent quality, kindness, good communicator, and responsible in every way.”
“Mitchell has a wide range of skills and I felt completely comfortable having him in and around our home. Efficient, neat, and fast.”
“Mitchell showed up on time, explained everything clearly, and left the place cleaner than he found it. Exactly what you want in a contractor.”
Mitchell volunteers at the EGAN Warming Center, serving unhoused neighbors in Eugene. He also constructed Conestoga Hut shelters with Community Supported Shelters for three years.
“When I saw people under the bridge by my house, I knew I could help — not just with skills, but with a real solution.”
— Mitchell Walzer, NBC16 Eugene
Do you do free estimates?
It depends on the job. For straightforward projects we can often give a ballpark over the phone or by text with a photo. For larger or more complex work, we offer a free 15-minute consultation — plenty of time to get a clear picture of what you need and what it'll take. Any estimate fee is credited toward the job if you move forward.
How quickly do you respond?
Usually within a business day — text is fastest. Describe what you need and we'll get back to you. For urgent situations, call directly.
What areas do you serve?
For smaller jobs we focus on North Eugene. Larger projects can take us throughout the greater Eugene vicinity — just ask and we'll let you know if it's a fit.
How soon can you start?
Sometimes same day, sometimes a few weeks out — it depends on the schedule. Reach out early and we'll give you an honest timeline. We'd rather tell you upfront than keep you guessing.
Can you pull permits?
Yes. As a licensed General Residential Contractor (CCB #216798), we can pull permits for work that requires them. We'll let you know upfront if your project needs one and handle it as part of the job.
Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?
Yes — fully. We're a licensed General Residential Contractor with the state of Oregon (CCB #216798), bonded, and insured. That means you're protected if something unexpected happens on the job. Not every handyman carries this — it matters.
What does the free consultation include?
A focused 15-minute conversation — by phone, text, or in person — where we look at what you need, talk through options, and give you a straight answer on whether we're the right fit. No pressure, no sales pitch. Most people find it well worth their time.
Reach out and Mitchell will get back to you promptly — usually within a business day.
